  3.                 GRAMMAR SLAMMER--Slam your Grammar Agony with

  5.      The Program that answers the questions the Grammar Checkers can't
  6.  
  7.     GRAMMAR SLAMMER answers those questions that the Grammar Checkers
  8.     can't! GRAMMAR SLAMMER helps you in your writing and grammar the
  9.     simplest way known to Windows« Word Processor users. Grammar
  10.     Checkers are helpful, but they are limited. They miss things and
  11.     often ask you questions you can't answer. ("Do you want a comma
  12.     here?"--"How should I know?" you reply.) Disk-based grammar 
  13.     books can help, but they are cumbersome to use. GRAMMAR SLAMMER,
  14.     on the other hand, supplements the Grammar Checker by providing
  15.     answers in a format that you already know how to use--the Windows
  16.     Help File! One click on a Word Processor Macro or the GRAMMAR
  17.     SLAMMER toolbar and it pops up, ready to go! No office or computer
  18.     which depends on word processors should be without it!
  19.  
  20.     You can also use GRAMMAR SLAMMER as an English grammar tutorial.
  21.     With networked classes or computer projectors, it can be your class
  22.         notes.

  24.                           Installing GRAMMAR SLAMMER
  25.  
  26. To get started, you must install the file VBRUN300.DLL in the 
  27. \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. If you use a number of Windows programs, it is
  28. probably already there. If not, it is freely available from most online
  29. services, bulletin boards, and software dealers.
  30.  
  31. Then simply run SETUP.EXE, and GRAMMAR SLAMMER will set itself up in
  32. any Windows version 3.0, 3.1, NT, or 95. You can run SETUP.EXE by choosing
  33. the "File|Run" Menu option in the Program Manager and entering SETUP.EXE.
  34. (In Windows 95 the "Start|Run" option on the taskbar does the same thing).
  35. You may also run SETUP.EXE by double-clicking on the SETUP.EXE name from
  36. File Manager (or Windows Explorer in Windows 95).

  38.                            Running GRAMMAR SLAMMER
  39.  
  40. To run the program, double click on the new GRAMMAR SLAMMER icon you just
  41. installed. If the empty "Window" icon appears when you first install
  42. GRAMMAR SLAMMER (sometimes this happens), simply press the "File" Menu
  43. Choice on the Program Manager while GRAMMAR SLAMMER is highlighted. Then
  44. choose "Properties" and then choose the "Change Icon" button. Enter
  45. the directory name plus GRAMSLAM.EXE (this may be done with the "Browse"
  46. button, too). Click on "OK" twice and the GRAMMAR SLAMMER icon will be
  47. in place.

  49.                             Using GRAMMAR SLAMMER
  50.  
  51. GRAMMAR SLAMMER is easy to use. Start it as you would any Windows program
  52. by clicking or double-clicking (depending on your Windows version)
  53. on its icon or by double clicking on the program name in the File
  54. Manager. You can also start it by highlighting the program name in the File
  55. Manager and clicking on the File|Run menu options. File Manager is called
  56. "Windows Explorer" in Windows 95, but the procedure is similar.

  64. All you see is a little toolbar with three buttons or icons.  This toolbar
  65. stays on top of any word processor or program which is running in Windows.
  66. When you need some grammar information, click on the left button with the
  67. "G" and GRAMMAR SLAMMER will appear. When you are done using GRAMMAR SLAMMER,
  68. click on the "Close" button at the top of the Help file, and you will return
  69. to your program, with the Grammar Slammer toolbar ready for you to use 
  70. again when you need to.

  72. Click on the middle button with the universal "Stop Circle" and the program
  73. will close. Click on the right button with the Question Mark and a Windows
  74. menu will appear giving you some choices to position the toolbar where you
  75. want it, ask for help, turn the pop-up help boxes off and on, and get
  76. additional information.

  78. If you do a lot of word processing, or if you like the convenience of the
  79. GRAMMAR SLAMMER toolbar, install GRAMMAR SLAMMER in the "STARTUP"
  80. Window.  This will cause GRAMMAR SLAMMER to load each time you go into
  81. Windows.  If you do not have a "STARTUP" window, consult your Windows
  82. Operating System Manual on how to create one.

  84. Demo or evaluation copies of GRAMMAR SLAMMER to go with the macro systems
  85. of the four major Windows words processors are available from CompuServe
  86. support forums of Word for Windows, Ami and Word Pro for Windows, and
  87. Wordperfect for Windows. They may be available from other specialized
  88. FTP sites, bulletin boards, and shareware sources.

  122. Like many Windows programs, GRAMMAR SLAMMER needs the file VBRUN300.DLL in
  123. order to run. Put it in your Windows\System directory.  Chances are, you
  124. probably have it installed already.  If not, it is readily available from
  125. most on-line services, bulletin boards, and shareware dealers.
  126.  
  127. If you get a "File Not Found" or "Type Mismatch" error message when you
  128. first try to run GRAMMAR SLAMMER this means that the file GS1.INI is not
  129. installed properly or is corrupted. This file belongs in your \WINDOWS 
  130. directory (folder). If you get a "Path not Found" error message try moving
  131. the GS1.INI file to the same directory that the rest of the files are in
  132. (normally C:\GRAMSLAM). If you still get the "Path not Found" message, copy
  133. the VBRUN300.DLL file to the GRAMSLAM directory also. (This is most likely
  134. to occur when the Windows files are on a different drive than GRAMMAR 
  135. SLAMMER.) Also see #2 below.

  137. SETUP problems (rare, but do happen):
  138. 1) SETUP does nothing. Make sure file VBRUN300.DLL is present in your
  139. \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. Otherwise this usually happens on older
  140. machines (such as 386/25's) or machines which are configured for a
  141. language other than English. If this happens, you may manually copy and
  142. rename the files to the selected directory. We recommend making a
  143. directory (folder) named C:\GRAMSLAM and then copying the necessary
  144. files into it. The files needed are GRAMSLAM.EX_ which should be renamed
  145. GRAMSLAM.EXE; GRAMSLAM.TX_ to be renamed GRAMSLAM.TX_; GRAMSLAM.HL_ to
  146. be renamed GRAMSLAM.HLP; GS1.IN_ to be renamed GS1.INI; GSB.IC_ to be
  147. renamed GSB.ICO; GSLAUNCH.HL_ to be renamed GSLAUNCH.HLP; and TBAR.VB_ to
  148. be renamed TBAR.VBX.

  150. 2) After setting up and trying to run Grammar Slammer, you get a "Path
  151. not found" message. This may happen if the WINDOWS directory is on a
  152. different drive than the Grammar Slammer files. Try moving the Grammar
  153. Slammer directory and files to the same drive as WINDOWS directory. If
  154. there is still a problem, check to make sure all files are present. On a
  155. few older PC's there may still be a "path not found" message.
  156. Check to insure that the file WINHELP.EXE is in your \WINDOWS directory.
  157. If it is missing or corrupted, it must be installed from your Windows
  158. installation disks.
  159.  
  160. For some reason the TBAR.VBX file does not work on a few machines. In that
  161. case, you may still use Grammar Slammer, but you cannot use the toolbar.
  162. In that case, add Grammar Slammer to your Startup Window. (IF the startup
  163. window is missing, consult your Windows manual for how to create it.)
  164. Edit the "File|Properties" so that the command line reads "winhelp.exe
  165. c:\gramslam\gramslam.hlp" and choose the GSB.ICO for the icon. (Clearly
  166. if Grammar Slammer is in a different directory than c:\gramslam, you will
  167. have to make the necessary changes.) Then check the "run minimized" box.
  168. This will cause Grammar Slammer to be loaded as an icon which you can
  169. click or double-click to call up.
  170.

  172. 3) If that still does not work, try going into the File Manager or Windows
  173. Explorer, and double-click on the GRAMSLAM.HLP file. If this does not
  174. successfully call up the Grammar Slammer help file, then either your
  175. WINHELP.EXE program is not working, not present, or in the wrong directory
  176. (it should be in your \WINDOWS directory), or your machine for some reason
  177. is not compatible.

  180.                          Uninstalling GRAMMAR SLAMMER
  181.  
  182. Should you ever need to remove GRAMMAR SLAMMER from your system, the
  183. following is a complete list of the files you must delete: GRAMSLAM.EXE,
  184. GS1.INI (in WINDOWS directory), GSLAUNCH.HLP, GRAMSLAM.HLP, and TBAR.VBX.
  185. You may also need to delete miscellaneous text files that may have come
  186. with the program such as this GRAMSLAM.TXT, VENDOR.TXT, BBSINFO.TXT,
  187. FILE_ID.DIZ, VENDINFO.DIZ, and GRAMSLAM.DOZ.
  188. In addition, Windows 95 will have GSLAUNCH.GID and GRAMSLAM.GID, files
  189. created by Windows 95 to assist the .HLP files. GRAMMAR SLAMMER also uses
  190. VBRUN300.DLL (in WINDOWS/SYSTEM directory), but you should not remove this
  191. file unless you are certain that no other program uses it. VBRUN300.DLL is
  192. a common file used by many programs.
